Anxiety

Anxiety is one of the most common things we all deal with in our daily lives. We were given anxiety in order to help us be safe and to escape from dangers. Many of you may have heard of the terminology “fight or flight”. This is when our adrenaline glands kick into gear and we decide that we are either going to barge through our problem or we are going to run away from our problem. Were anxiety becomes a problem is when it becomes debilitating to our system and keeps us from leading a normal active life. There are multiple types of anxiety problems and anxiety disorders including phobias. With each anxiety disorder there are specific, causes specific reasons and specific treatments for each kind. Just as with depression, anxiety can be caused from a biological perspective so one of the first things is to have a medical review with your doctor to determine whether your anxiety is from a biological cause or psychological cause.
It is estimated that as many as 25% of the general population suffer from some type of anxiety. In many instances, symptoms are intense to the point that they cripple one’s personal relationships, career and quality of life. With our ever-changing world and fast-paced lives, we are experiencing many more problems that create anxiety in our lives. Issues like financial setbacks, workplace demands, loss, unplanned pregnancies, cancer, obesity and other physical problems and the stresses of our day quickly can get overwhelming. Our bodies and being aren’t psychologically capable of dealing with the prolonged pressures of today’s modern day living that so many of us are experiencing.
Anxiety is an inevitable part of our life. Symptoms and intensity range from a mild response to an intense fear which interferes with daily functioning and sense of well-being. Each anxiety response and disorder has its own distinct features, but they are all bound together by common theme of excessive, irrational fear and dread. Anxiety often exist with other type of disorders, depression be in the largest one.
When dealing with anxiety, our first recommendation would be a diagnostic evaluation followed up with an updated physical exam. If the symptoms are severe and are inhibiting your life we would refer you to a psychiatrist for further evaluation. During this time, we also recognize that Jesus is our Wonderful Counselor and the model for us in which he calls us to maturity and asks us into His life. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, they God upon whom we ground all our work. As it says in Philippians 4: 6-7 “6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
It is the Scripture that we go by when working with individuals who are dealing with anxiety, and as we walk with you to your path of healing we will be prayerful that God will give the healing to release the issues creating the anxiety within your heart. All things laid at the foot of the cross can be left at the foot of the cross to no longer be a burden for us to carry.
